# Exporting an item
Exporting an item allows you to generate and download a file `.artifact` containing the selected component (e.g. a form, process, or composite component).
To export an artifact, while on the list of a given item type (in the example, the module **Library**, tab **Forms**), open the artifact's context menu and select the option **Download**.
